Have you noticed?
Can you feel it?
I’ll let the poinsettia
symbolize what’s happening.
Holiday cheer is spreading
and kindness is in bloom!
I ran across so many
shiny, happy people today:
a downright giddy barista at Starbucks,
a grocery store bag boy grinning ear to ear,
drivers who actually
stopped at pedestrian crossings!
And I can’t forget to mention
the man I met tonight,
who was bundled up in three layers of clothes
so he could withstand
a temperature of 9 degrees,
just to collect money for the Salvation Army.
I thanked him for doing it
and said I couldn’t imagine how cold he was.
But he just smiled and said,
“I ain’t cold! My heart is warm!”
So is mine.
