I thought it was pretty obvious
that this was a picture
of giant icicles on an evergreen tree.

But then my four-year-old
walked in the room and exclaimed,
“I see a whale shooting water!”
I stared at the image,
probably looking perplexed.

He continued,
“And I see snow and rain
and there are the firelights.”

Firelights?

“Firelights shine when it’s dark.
I don’t know where they come from,
but I think a man is back there
doing the work,
trying to make them flash.”

Alrighty then.

Funny thing is,
I have a feeling his description
might be more right-on than mine.

What you get
isn’t always what you see.
