What I really love
about this sweet little purple plant
in my mom’s garden
is how it embraces its imperfections.
It’s a little rough around the edges,
different shades in different places,
but I think it truly believes
it’s perfectly lovely.

Reminds me of a quote from
Alice Walker’s
The Color Purple,
when Shug says:
“I think it pisses God off
if you walk by the color purple
in a field somewhere
and don’t notice it.”
