Today
I attended a baby shower
for a friend
and a birthday party
for my brother –
both wonderful, intimate
celebrations of life.
I’m a sucker for special occasions.
I love the get-togethers, the gifts, the gab.
But sunflowers know
you don’t need a party
to celebrate life.
They do it every day,
shining from their core,
dressed in a crown of gold,
reaching for the light.
