I was lucky enough
to witness this brilliant,
blazing sunset from afar
while I was out of town.
It took my breath away,
so dazzling and vibrant,
like a great big ornament
hanging from heaven.
But it faded too quickly,
disappearing before
I could whisper ‘thank you.’
I know I’ll see it again,
some other lucky day,
but I wanted it to stay forever.
And then I remembered:
the only constant
on the horizon
is change.
