I saw monarchs
everywhere today,
including this one
in my front yard.
Made me wonder
what will happen
to these beautiful butterflies
as autumn falls.

So, I did a little digging
and learned that most
adult monarchs only live
for four to five weeks.
However, there are always
a chosen few
who live for up to eight months
and actually migrate south
to the center of Mexico in the fall.

Just think of the enormous distance
they fly with those paper-thin wings!
They eventually fly all the way back home
to pass on their legacy
to a new generation of monarchs.

For more fascinating details,
They are working to preserve
the monarchs’ habitat in Mexico
because this incredible creature
is considered an endangered species!
