Isn’t that an amazing face?
Wish I could say
I’d seen him up close
on an African safari,
where he roamed free
across the land.
But, instead, he was giving rides
to children at a local festival.

He was a real character,
spraying water
and even sticking his trunk
into a baby’s stroller
on the other side of the fence!

I stood in front of him
while he waited for another
group to climb on board.
I was in awe of his soulful eyes,
his deep wrinkles,
his ivory tusks,
his big, flapping ears.
I wish I could have
taken him with me,
brought him back to the wild
where this beauty belongs.
