The other leaves on this
poinsettia plant
are shockingly red,
almost artificial-looking,
with no veins in sight.
But this lone leaf
stands out from the crowd
by showing its true colors
and embracing its life lines.
A friend of mine
recently renamed
the crow’s feet appearing
around her eyes
“happy feet,”
for the joy and laughter
they represent.
She sees them as a badge of honor,
not a drawback to growing older.
Much like this lovely leaf,
she is embracing her life lines
with pride.
