Had I not known
something beautiful
was bound to emerge
from this odd-looking plant
in a gift basket I received,
I may have dismissed it
as unappealing, even grotesque.
But with patience
and a little TLC,
the green buds finally opened up
to reveal this pretty-in-pink
Ann Marie hyacinth.
An extreme makeover
by Mother Nature
and a reminder to me
not to judge
something or someone
from the outside
until taking the time
to look at the beauty
and potential within.
