What would happen
if we each took responsibility
for one patch of the earth
that’s longing to be shown
a little love?
As far as I’m concerned,
the world can never have
too many gardens,
which is why this news story
about guerilla gardeners
made my heart sing.
It’s about people
who go under cover of night
to plant gardens
on city property
that’s gone untended
and unnoticed.
It’s their way of
spreading a little beauty,
literally overnight.
Now that’s what it means
to love your country.
