I’m pretty certain
those who use the term
“tree hugger”
in a derogatory way
have never actually tried it.
It’s hard not to want
to reach out and touch
such a steadfast presence
once you’ve basked under its
golden canopy of leaves.
If a full embrace feels too awkward,
perhaps a little lean against the trunk
or a subtle whisper of “thanks”
will do the trick.
You may be surprised
how sweet it feels
to touch a tree
with your hands and heart.
