What did you notice first:
the flowers
or the piles of paper?
My colleagues and I noticed the flowers right away,
even bent down to check if they were real
since there’s typically very little vegetation
in Cubical Land.

There must be billions of office cubes
dotting our great big planet,
most with drab gray or tan partitions
and non-descript desks that are
buried in spreadsheets and planners and notebooks
like this one.

But those sweet-as-spring flowers
nearly transform this common cube,
holding court on a messy desk
and catching nearby cube-dwellers by surprise.
It doesn’t take much
to make your office space
your happy place
(at least from 9 to 5).
