If this group of young people
is any indication,
the future looks very bright.

Last night I had the honor of emceeing
the 20th annual Caring Youth Awards
in St. Louis Park, MN.
Schools and charitable organizations
celebrated the selflessnesss
and compassion shown by these teens
on a regular basis.

They are kids who feel good
about doing good,
from helping an Ethiopian family
transition into their new life
to spending hundreds of hours
volunteering at a nature preserve.

Since the dawn of time,
I’m pretty sure teenagers
have received a bad rap,
frequently portrayed as
self-absorbed and shallow.
But these young people
shatter that stereotype,
acting out of the goodness
of their hearts
whether helping a friend
or helping a stranger.
They are real-life superheroes.
