They’re called evergreens
because they’re green all the time,
which means it’s easy to take them for granted,
let them fade into the background.
But if you look real close
this time of year,
once they’re sure the snow is gone
and the cold has subsided,
you’ll notice
a lighter shade of evergreen
popping out
from the tips of each branch,
quietly stretching and growing
while we all do the same.
