My kindergartener ran into the house
and excitedly shouted,
“Mom! Come see the rainbow!”
I pointed out that it was
actually bright and sunny outside,
but he insisted
I go look anyway.

Sure enough,
there was an arch
of light and colors
hovering just above the sun.
How he noticed it in the first place
I’ll never know,
since we had to squint
and shade our eyes
just to see it.

Given that there wasn’t a cloud
or drop of rain in sight,
we decided to call it a sunbow.
