My days
are like bodies of water,
some crashing like ocean waves
against the shore,
others flowing gently
down the stream.
Each morning, I dip my toes in
to test the water,
then envision smooth sailing
from dawn to dusk.
There are days I catch myself
swimming upstream
and try to change course,
go with the flow, ride the current.
There are days I think I’m drowning,
but I never really am.
I know how to swim,
I know how to tread water,
I know how to call for help.
My favorite days are when
I simply float along,
trusting I am heading
in the right direction,
held up by a hand I cannot see.
