It can be pretty darn hard
to live in the moment
when you’re late to work,
hurrying off to baseball practice,
or have a fridge full of nothing.
Sometimes, the logistics of life
act like a barricade,
keeping us just within arm’s length
of peace and balance,
challenging us to find ways
to make it all work.
That’s why it felt so good tonight
to pack a picnic, load up the car,
and head to a city lake
where our friend Andy
was singing with the
I’d forgotten how wonderful it is
to sit back, relax
and listen to free, live music
while watching sailboats floating by,
hearing ducks round up their families,
feeling the sun slowly fading behind us.
After a busy day,
we managed to carve out
a little slice of Heaven.
