He loves his uniform so much
he’d sleep in it if he could.
He channels a pro player
whenever he puts it on,
copying the moves
of his favorite
Minnesota Twins,
from kicking the dirt
at home plate
to tipping his hat
to the small crowd.

In kindergarten,
the teams are lucky
if they make it through
five innings.
There’s rarely an actual out
and there’s no scoring,
but he insists they’ve won
every game.

It’s such a joy to watch him,
doing something
he loves so much,
something that makes him feel
so good and powerful
and talented.
Every kid needs
to know how it feels
to shine from the inside out.
