I know people

who ride roller coasters
that plummet from hills
way up in the clouds
but are too terrified
to climb on a ferris wheel.
It makes perfect sense to me.

On a wild and crazy coaster,
you’re seduced by the rush
of adrenaline and courage,
with no time to think
and no chance to turn back.

But a leisurely ride
on a wheel in the sky
forces you to slow down,
to quiet your mind,
to hang in mid-air
as you peer at what’s on the horizon.
And that’s perfectly scary for some.
