reveals only a sliver of blue sky.
It’s amazing how the intentional crack
turns these brick walls into art
as passersby
stand before it.
Some stand several feet away,
staring at the gap.
Others press up to the wall,
squinting and contorting
to see what there is to see
through the divide.
Still, others refuse to stop,
shrugging their shoulders
or ignoring
the ribbon of blue altogether.
But my favorites to watch are those
who see that sliver of blue
and let their eyes follow it
up, up, up,
as they bend their backs
and stretch their necks
and look rather relieved
when they discover
the whole sky
is waiting at the top.
