In this sculpture of three women dancing,
I was particularly enthralled with
the image of their arms
outstretched towards the sky,
reaching for the trees,
grasping for sunlight.

I think we’ve all been in this position
at one time or another,
reaching out,
reaching up,
hoping to grab hold
of luck or love
or whatever it is
we think we need at the moment.

But some raise their hands to the sky
with clenched fists,
frustrated and furious with life.
Funny how that dance of anger
rarely produces a downpour
of abundance.
It is much easier to receive
life’s riches
when our hands and hearts
are open wide.
