We are all so very tiny.
We live our lives day by day,
each one of us
at the center of our own universe,
often convinced
that we’re big enough and strong enough
to carry the weight of the world.
But I’m reminded how small I really am
by a photo like this,
a giant angel’s wing of clouds
filling the frame.
Upon closer inspection,
I noticed a miniscule black dot
near the lower right hand corner,
small as a speck of dirt.
Turns out
that little pinprick in the clouds
is a 150,000-pound plane,
mammoth enough to carry
hundreds of passengers
through the friendly skies,
yet microscopic against the backdrop
of that great big swath of clouds
across an infinite sky.
Sometimes the things we think
are such a big deal
are not so big after all.
