We have a bowl full of rocks
on our kitchen table
to look pretty,
to play with,
to ground us.
Yesterday, I found my six-year-old
absent-mindedly
(or maybe more conscious than usual!)
creating a sort of labyrinth
out of his favorite rocks.
For centuries,
rocks placed in circles
have had significant meaning.
Just look at Stonehenge;
three circles of giant rocks
placed inside one another
to perfectly predict
the rising and setting of the sun
throughout the year.
It’s fascinating to me
that a little boy
thousands of years later
would be moved to create
his own circle of rocks, too.
