I love the tenacity and perseverance that is born out of
living through one winter after the next in the Midwest.
I’m a sit-by-the-fire-with-my-hot-cocoa kinda girl,
but some people embrace the outdoors no matter the weather.
This bike was parked in a snowdrift
outside a restaurant, late at night,
as a winter storm was brewing.
I’m sure its owner rode it home in the bitter cold,
with the only sound on this still and snowy night
the thwap-thwap-thwap of his pedals.
As I get in my car to drive home,
I actually envy the bicyclist a bit,
wishing I was more connected
to the winter wonderland around me.
