I think the next time I’m having a hard day,
I should maybe think about the people long ago
who spent their days
building immense stone structures
and intricate, flawless rose windows like this.
I can’t fathom how they did this
without the machinery and efficiencies we have today.
Just imagine how long it took,
how hard the physical labor must have been,
how little the workers probably made
in return for such artistry.
Nowadays, construction companies can build skyscrapers
in no time flat with high-tech tools and mammoth machines.
The workers who built age-old structures like this church
had no such fancy equipment;
just stamina, willpower and unfaltering faith.
