I’m enjoying Alice Walker’s We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For: Inner Light in a Time of Darkness and just read this passage about when she first read The I Ching over 25 years ago. At that time, the first page she opened to described the “hexagram” or concept of after completion – the critical, pivotol time right after a major life transition.
Pick a life transition you’ve experienced and you’ll be able to relate to what it feels like to be in the after completion haze. Alice writes that it’s “the moment when something major is accomplished and we are so relieved to finally be done with it that we are already rushing, at least mentally, into The Future. Wisdom, however, requests a pause. If we cannot give ourselves such a pause, the Universe will likely give it to us.”
Think about that! If you don’t take time to just reflect on where you’ve been and what you’ve learned through this major transition, forces unseen will find a way to make you stop in your tracks. You want these moments to be created on your own terms. Celebrate the journey. Honor the process. Consider the lessons. Let your body relax and rejuvenate. And then, only then, can we all move forward.
