A favorite little luxury in my life is pulling through the drive-thru at one of my favorite coffee shops, a Caribou Coffee not far from my house. I actually go a couple of extra miles to go to this particular one because the employees are so sweet, I love their Cinnamon French Vanilla Northern Lite lattes, and the place just has good energy. Oh, and then there’s the drive-thru – a true treat on a blustery day in Minnesota!
Well, the other day I pulled up to the drive-thru window and was tickled to see they’d plastered the window with pictures of patrons who stopped for a cup of coffee with their pups in tow. It just made me smile from ear to ear to see those dogs and their happy owners. And I think it’s a great example of employee satisfaction; when staffers care about the place where they work, they care about their customers, too. Someone had to take all those photos at the drive-thru, someone had to post them on the window (both inside and out) and somebody must keep the shop’s stash of dog treats full (they give one to each dog who stops by!). Not a huge undertaking, but it’s still going above and beyond the call of duty. And look what a day brightener it was for me and, I’m sure, for hundreds of others who pull through for their daily dose of java. Pretty doggone cool.
(By the way…if you want to spread your own joy at a coffee shop, pay for the person behind you. I love doing this at the drive-thru and asking the clerk to just tell the recipient to have a happy day!)
